Bobbi Brown Luxe Bridal Tea Invitation

I was very pleased to be invited to create a cake for the prestigious Bobbi Brown Luxe Bridal Tea event last week.  The event, to celebrate the launch of Bobbi Brown’s new bridal make-up range, was held at one of the most beautiful and prestigious of London hotels, The Dorchester.  I’m a big cosmetics fan so was in seventh heaven when asked to make a cake for such a top quality brand!

Ideal-Home-feature  I’m delighted to report that my cake push ups are featured in a baking feature in the May 2013 edition of Ideal Home magazine, along with a link to my online cake making supplies shop www.cakemakersupplies.co.uk.  If you fancy having a go at cake push ups why not pop over to the website.  Push ups are a mess free and fun alternative to regular cakes and cupcakes, and are great in children’s party bags.

Business Awards Finalist LogoIt’s been such an exciting year here at Sarah’s Farmhouse Fancies HQ and it just seems to be getting better and better.  I am thrilled to announce that I have been shortlisted as a finalist in two categories of the Southend District Business Awards 2011 – ‘Small Business of the Year’ and ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ – woohoo!!!

I am now looking forward to the next stage of the process which involves a field visit to the studio and interviews with the judges of each category.

The lovely Mr Farmhouse Fancies and I will be attending the black tie presentation dinner and dance at the Cliff’s Pavillion in Southend on Friday 7th October where the winners will be announced.

Wish me luck!!!

Wedding CakeWhen having a rummage in the attic earlier we happened to stumble across the top tier of our wedding cake, all boxed up and patiently waiting for us to bring it out for a special occasion.  I think we were saving it for our boys’ christening, which to our shame we never actually got round to…..but that’s a whole other story.  Anyway, sadly the years haven’t been as kind to the cake as they have to us, and so it was with a heavy heart that the cake hit the dustbin.

On a happier note, we found this poem along with the cake.  On our wedding day it sat proudly in a frame on the wedding cake table.  I loved it then and love it just as much now.  Enjoy x

  • 1/2lb of good looks
  • 1lb of sweet temper
  • 1lb of blindness of faults
  • 1lb of self-forgetfulness

  • 1lb of good humour
  • 2 tbsp of sweet argument

Put the love, good looks and sweet temper into a well-furnished house.

Beat the butter of youth to a cream, and mix well together with the blindness of faults and self-forgetfulness.

Stir the pounded wit and good humour into the sweet argument, and then add the rippling laughter, common sense and modesty.

Work the whole lot together until everything is well mixed.

Bake gently forever.
